It isn't often an icon the likes of Thad Jones comes along and shakes up the scene with an intense, creative, engaging, hard swingin' and adventurous approach quite like how he did. To call what he's left behind a legacy doesn't begin to cover the vast amount of compositions, live performances and former members of his group still preaching his message today. Jones is a once in a generation performer and composer who has engraved his name deeply into the fabric of jazz history. His passing on August 21st, 1986 left a void on the NYC jazz scene.
